The man turned again with a smile, " No dear girl I have made a mess of my life and now must live with it."
Jeannie took pity on this poor soul and walked over she took his hand in her's. "I beg you pardon young lady what do you think your doing? People might see and think odd a married man be standing around holding hands with a pretty girl. My wife, bless her would take offense or worse.... Yet thank you for being considerate!"
"Please sir my I help you in some way?"
"Dear girl I screwed up my life so much in the past year. I sold my business of thirtyone years to a hapless idiot. A guy who considers everybody to far less than himself. My customers and friends will lose the personal relation from a good salesman. I wish to hell that I could be some dumb animal and forget my past!"
Jeannie smiled at the rought man now showing a scowling face. "Do you really wish to leave wife, family, friends and be a animal for the rest of your life?
"Yes that should do the trick, but it's impossible so I continue to be myself and feel the disgust for what I've done."
Jeannie squeezed his hand, "Come with me I know of a job just perfect for you. A position of strength, employed where you are appreciated for who and what you are!"
The man's eyes went wide with hope and then his face softened. "Why would some stranger help anyone in these hard times? Where is this job and will it pay enough to live on?"
Jeannie smiled, "You can live very well! Food, lodging, and I'd think the money would be all you might need for a common lifestyle. Come walk with me and we'll check out the position."
As they walked the man introduced himself as William J. Garrett an insurance salesman and now retired. Jeannie thought to herself as to what she could tell him of her past. Lucky for her they arrived at the place of employment.

Walking inside she took his hand and went toward the old town fire station. "Good day Mr. Fire Chief, said Jeannie with a grin."
"Good day to you both said the man in a turn of century fireman oufit. It would be a good day if the village manager could find another draft horse to take the place of our prize leed fire horse. Yup he pulled many a wagon here in his twenty eight years. I never seen a more willing Percheron. He worked well with everybody and heck he even sired four of our Percheron's. He was something, good, kind, William, a fine horse, you bet!"
William turned to Jeannie with a angry scowl, "You brought me here to work? I'm not some DAMN Percheron! You are some kinda....."
"Shhhhh, come with me Mr. Garrett, said Jeannie."
Taking the hand of the man she walked him around back the livery stable. "You may not believe now, but I have powers enough to have you take ole' William's place!"
Wide eyes the man said, "YOUR NUTS, SOMEONE SHOULD LOCK PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN A CELL OF BOTTLE!"
