"In order to prove yourself worthy of the change, you must pass a series of tests that evaluate your skills," said Kymeria.
"What kind of skills?"
"Don't worry, just follow me."
She leads you to a large doorway through which you can see a pool of water, but it is either too dark inside or the chamber is too long for you to see the far wall. She tells you to strip and enter the chamber. Not wanting to do anything to the contrary you obey. "Good luck. I'll be waiting for you on the other side," she whispers as you enter and you feel her scales along your face before she leaves.
Stepping into the chamber you realize there is a platform about 20 yards beyond this edge of the pool of water and then another pool beyond the platform. Taking your first steps into the water seems to light up a series of torches along the side walls, allowing you to see that the chamber is indeed very long, but only 40 feet wide. It also allows you to see that there are various traps along the surface of the water and your best option is to go under to reach the first platform.
You take a deep breath and dive under and are suddenly face with the task of navigating through traps below the surface in this dark water, but are helped by the fact that they seem to have chains that faintly rattle when you are near one. Realizing that the possibility of taking a breath in the middle of this obstacle course is unlikely, you resurface to take a deep breath and then dive forward.
Instantly, you hear the rattle of chains in front of you and swerve to your left, since you perceive a darker spot on the right. This allows you to swim ahead a few body lengths before the sounds reappears. This time you swim over the trap as you see the glint in the torchlight, but are careful not to get scraped by the metal barbs that make up the traps on the surface of the water. Diving back down you realize your not going to be able to hold your breath much longer if you exert yourself this much and try to pick the cleanest path squinting your eyes to see as much in front of you as you can. Luckily, you think you've found a good diagonal line to the right and go for it. Just as you're chest begins to rapidly beg for air, you hit the barrier, look up and see you've made it past the traps. Quickly you surface in the longest second of your life and heave yourself on top of the platform desperately trying to regain your breath.
As you lie there with your chest rapidly inflating and deflating you hear a booming voice echo throughout the cavernous space, "You have shown that you are worthy of the senses of the dragon, astutely using your inferior mammalian senses to pick your way out of danger. You have passed the first test." Instantly, you feel a great pain in your skull on the front and the sides forcing you to curl up and shut your eyes. When you finally can relax and open your eyes again, everything seems brighter and clearer as if there is more torchlight in the room, which is what you believe must have happened while your eyes were closed. You think maybe they turn it up after you complete each test, but Kymeria and her fellow dragons know this isn't true as they watch you from high up on the walls of the chamber...
