Impatience never pays.

added 15 years ago A BM I O

You poke and prod a bit at that bite mark. It doesn't hurt, but the lack of pain only worries you more. With a bite that deep, you'd expect some pain, or maybe some numbness, or SOMETHING, but instead your leg just looks and feels normal (with the exceptions of the two black latex spots where that snake's teeth sunk into you). Even worse, you're left waiting and wondering what that stuff inside you is going to do. Maybe it's really slow-acting, and the effects won't come for days! Maybe it's just working its way to your heart, waiting until it can spread throughout your entire body before making its move! Maybe it's... maybe it's... augh! You hate the thought of that stuff doing anything to you, but this endless waiting is completely impossible to take! At this point, you'd rather know that it's doing SOMETHING than have to sit here and worry about what it is that it's going to do!

Of course, you just had to want it, didn't you? You couldn't have just hoped that nothing would happen and move on, could you? Well, it's too late to go back now. Almost as though it's reacting to your frustration, you can your flesh starting to bulge slightly around the bite, the substance that had filled it beginning to shift. You watch as the bulge slowly makes its way around your ankle and down your feet, spreading to each of your toes. As it reaches each one, they slowly puff up, swelling more and more, and as they do the skin on them seems to become darker. Soon, the swelling seems more determinate, the flesh between the toes pushing out to join them as the toenails slowly shift forward, combining at the tip and then beginning to extend out into small, pointy claws. Within moments, your now black skin has begun to shine in the light of the room, your foot having abandoned its human form for a somewhat pudgier, three-toed cat-like configuration. You'd love to spend some time looking it over or thinking about it, but as soon as the foot has finished you can feel that bulge beginning to spread further, the mild swelling around your ankle beginning to move at an agonizingly slow pace towards your knee, all while the skin that has swollen first shifts to a jet black color and then gains that latex shine.

What do you do now?
