That was easy... too easy...

added 15 years ago O

Without effort, you simply lift your foot out of the puddle. The pink latex drips away almost instantly, leaving your shoe no worse for the wear. Still, it's probably not best to tempt fate, you tell yourself, and so you leave the puddle and begin the long walk home.

On your way back, your shoe starts to feel somewhat uncomfortable, like it's suddenly half a size too small. It's not enough to really bother you, but it's more than enough to notice, and you do find it odd. Maybe that puddle shrunk the shoe? You give it a once-over, but it looks no different than it did before. Then again, you've been walking around for a while now, haven't you? Your foot must be getting tired, you assume. You'll have to give it a good rub when you get back, but for now, you can just suck it up and deal with the slight discomfort. Putting aside thoughts of latex puddles and shrinking shoes, you try to focus on making your way home.

By the time you make it to your front step, your foot's starting to feel very snug in that shoe, and you're beginning to wonder whether or not it really is just sore from walking. Maybe the shoe DID shrink. After all, you're not a particularly good judge of this sort of thing even at the best of times, and right now it's very late at night, something that only further impedes your questionable judgment. No worries, you tell yourself as you open your door and walk into the comforting warmth of your house, you can always just get yourself a new pair of shoes. Losing a bit of footwear is far, far better than having to face what that man... but you'd rather not think of that. You'd stood there and done nothing while he was consumed, and your uselessness and cowardice isn't really something that you particularly like to reflect on.

Letting out a sigh, you crouch to take off your shoes. First things first: get rid of that right one, it's really starting to hurt! You try to just pull it off, but it isn't budging - it did shrink! - so you quickly undo the laces, loosen it up, and then give it a good tug to yank it off. It still doesn't come off very easily, but you do get your foot out of the shoe, and that's all you were really after. You give the shoe another look, finding that you still can't see anything strange about it, and then just toss it aside. Moving back to your feet, you prepare to remove your left shoe, but notice something odd before you do. Your left sock seems oddly deformed, bulging in strange ways, like there was something in it with your foot to change the shape of it. You give... whatever it is a poke, and see that it has a bit of give, but not much. Even the little bit that does give way immediately regains its shape as soon as you stop pushing. Strange, especially since you hadn't felt it... but then, you suppose that you had, as this must be what was causing all that discomfort. Now the only question that remains is WHAT, exactly, is in your sock. Maybe some of that latex got caught in it?

Unable to hold back your curiosity any longer, your inquisitive mind demanding answers, you grab the end of your sock and pull it away to find that...
