Things only get harder from here.

added 15 years ago A BM I O

Lost in a sea of confusion and agony, you grasp for something. You grasp for it, and no one else. Somehow, you feel a great significance in this seemingly meaningless fact, and you hold onto it. You're in control, and that's important. You can't give it up, no matter what you have to go through, because there are few things that matter more.

With this realization, your eyes shoot open and you instantly regain consciousness, propelled from the depths of your mind with this new sense of self. Your decision made, the mental changes cease and you no longer feel the latex's presence within your thoughts. At the same time, the physical changes have begun to recede - the latex slowly crawling back up your neck, your mouth and ears retracting and shifting back to where they were, your entire head regaining its former shape. Soon, all that's left is the long green tongue hanging from your mouth, and within seconds that too is gone, leaving you looking and feeling as human as ever. Hopefully, this reversal is permanent - you'd rather not wake up some day and find that the anteater head has returned. Now if only you could just help Josh fight his own changes, you might be able to stop that- Josh! You'd almost forgotten! While you were pushing the latex out, he didn't seem to be doing anything to slow its progress! By now, he's probably changed completely, both in mind and in body! Hopefully, it can still be reversed even after the changes have run their course.

But that leaves with you another issue. Having conquered the abstract choice of your own changes, you're now left with a rather concrete one: is it worth the risk to search for Josh and the wolf? You seem to be cured, but there's no telling whether or not that "cure" could withstand another attempt on you. Even if it does, so far you've only seen changes from things like bites or contact with their blood. What if they have other ways of changing people, ways that are stronger or even different altogether? And even if they don't, it's entirely possible that they could just realize that you can't be changed and kill you if you try to come near them. Yes, there's no end to the risks involved if you try to face them, but the alternatives are hardly better. In a worst case scenario, they could spread that latex infection to virtually everyone in the world, leaving only people like you who barely manage to fend it off as the last scraps of the human race. Even if that doesn't happen, the best that COULD result from your simply ignoring the problem and going home is that both of them are shot and killed by the local police. In either case, you're not sure that you could live with the burden your conscience would have to bear knowing that you may have been able to stop it.

And so, you find yourself at yet another crossroads, barely able to tell which way to turn.
