The animal looks like a mouse, and not a particularly big one. You're still cautious of it even despite the fact that you can make it out - it may be small, but it still carries that latex sheen that the wolf from before did in its white fur and black eyes - but you do feel a fair amount of relief from the fact that it's something as relatively harmless as a small rodent, especially given the alternatives. Giving the mouse a last look, you decide to turn around and just walk home before-
YEEEEEEOWCH!
You jerk your right foot into the air as you feel something pierce your big toe, and as you do you see a flash of white at its tip. That little monster! When you weren't looking, it must've bitten through your shoe, jamming that tiny mouth into your toe! The pain isn't excruciating, but the surprise and fury you feel after its sudden occurrence is immense, more than enough to make you pull that damned rat off your foot with your bare hands and chuck it as hard as you can, watching with satisfaction as it soars far beyond your sight. Having done so, you sit down and take a look at your shoe. The punctures in your shoe aren't too bad, being just deep enough for it to reach your toe, and it's hard to tell with the shoe on but the bite "wound" doesn't seem to be bleeding. In fact, the pain's pretty much vanished at this point.
Your resolve for this "walk" of yours now essentially destroyed, you get up and turn to go home. Given the weird things you keep coming across, that's probably for the best.
