Jennifer quickly looked away from the bus driver's odd stare. She couldn't believe this embarrassment was happening to her. As she took the final step up onto the bus, her platform heel caught the stair and she fell onto the cold metal deck. Her books slid under the seats and the entire bus exploded in uproarious laughter.
The driver called for silence as Jenn sheepishly gathered her books and found an empty seat. The neighboring students stole glances and even some shameless stares during the bus ride.
School was even worse. Nobody recognized her under all the makeup and clothing, thank goodness. Even if she wasn't so bizarre looking, the fact that she was over a head shorter would have made her friends question her identity for a few minutes.
It was bound to happen... She was dumped in between the first two periods. Her books again tumbled all over the place. If only they could fit in her pointlessly small backpack.
Jenn, on her knees searching for her History homework, looked up at the face of her assailant. It was Kelly, a fellow member of the cheerleading squad.
"Kelly?!" Jenn stammered. She grunted. Her voice sounded like her throat was full of gravel. "Kelly, it's me! Jennifer!" Her voice still sounded awful.
It was clear to see Kelly wasn't convinced. "That freshman we humiliated last week, Kyle, he put the Transform or Dare curse on me!"
Kelly seemed to recognize Jenn at last. "What...? Is that really you?" she asked. "What the hell, Jenn? What on Earth possessed you to dress up like a freak and wear that stupid wig?"
"It was the curse!" Jenn said, standing up to face Kelly. She stepped back instinctively when she realized that Kelly was now a lot taller than her. She lost her edge for a moment, feeling suddenly intimidated by the tall cheerleader. Then something else came to mind that needed addressing. "Oh crap! And I think I just passed the curse onto you!"
"What are you blabbering about?" Kelly glanced around at the crowd that was lingering in the halls to watch them yelling. "You're making a scene!"
"Well, it was YOU who decided to dump me," Jenn huffed. "And now that I think about it, maybe I should put you in your place!" Jenn didn't know where her hostility was coming from all of a sudden. She didn't really blame Kelly for attacking her. If Jenn had been on Kelly's side she would have gone right along with the attack. But for some reason she felt compelled to curse her...
...Oh no. The curse! Kyle dared her to make whoever she cursed hate her, and the Transform/Dare combo that had just come to Jennifer's mind was going to make Kelly hate her for sure.
