As Rachel went back to making breakfast, her mind began to wander back to the box sitting in the other room. She'd been frightened by her changes at first, but now it occurred to her...the wand had only made her a fairy because she willed it to, albeit accidentally. She even changed back for the same reason. She could live out her childhood fantasy of being a fairy and change back whenever she wanted to!
Rachel went back to the living room and knelt down next to the box. Gingerly, she opened the lid and took out the wand once more. Taking a deep breath, she willed, <I want to be a fairy.> She winced as the felt the surge of pain in her hand, and then got goosebumps as the tingling began. She looked around breathlessly as hr clothed slid down her shrinking body and the room stretched out larger and larger, and then she giggled--partially from excitement, partially because the tingling sensation tickled.
Her giddiness stopped suddenly as what felt like a stage curtain slumped down over her body, covering her completely. She yelped in fight and flailed around wildly until she managed to crawl her way out from under what had fallen on her. Turning around, she realized what had fallen in her was her own shirt after she got too small to support it.
"I'm so smal--EEP!" Rachel started to say, then her hand flew to her mouth as a a much higher-pitched version of her voice was heard. It made sense, actually. Her vocal cords had shrunken along with the rest of her. She giggled again at how cute and silly it sounded, then remembered the wings on her back. She concentrated for a moment, trying to figure out how to make them move. She gasped with surprise as she felt them flap for a moment, then stop. Concentrating again, she was able to flap the wings fast and faster until the ground seemed to drop out from under her.
"Whooah!" Rachel yelped as she lost her balance momentarily, then looked down at her clothes lying on the floor. She was hovering just a few inches off the ground, but to her it seemed more like ten feet. She felt a momentary sense of vertigo, which gave way to euphoria as she realized she was actually FLYING!
"I can fly...I CAN FLY!" she joyfully shouted as she flew up to the ceiling and arched backward, making a graceful loop in the air. Flying had been a little difficult at first, but now it seemed to come naturally. Laughing and cheering joyously, she flew all around the room like a housefly, over chairs, under tables, looping and twirling, performing maneuvers that would put the Blue Angels to shame. Any fear or apprehension she had felt about her change was a distant memory.
