Lars had spent his summer playing video games and had forgotten about the program again. It was the day before school was set to start and he was trying to get in some quality WarCraft time. He hadn't given Jake the Abuser a second thought.
He started searching through his desk for the expansion pack his mom had gotten him for his birthday when he came across "The Virtual World" again. It all came back to him.
"I wonder why I always forget completely about this program when I'm not using it... it must be part of the magic. Maybe if I just keep it open all the time I'll forget about it. I should make some changes to myself!" Lars said. He opened up the program when a voice came from downstairs. It was his mom.
"Whaaat mom?" He said, jumping down the stairs. He stood still and shocked. Jake was standing in the room. He looked worse for the wear, as if he hadn't come out of his room all summer. His muscles were still toned but they were skinnier, more twink-like.
"What's HE doing here?"
"Well Lars," his mom said, "Jake didn't do so well in school last year. His mother called me and talked to me and I told her you'd be willing to tutor him."
"Without ASKING ME?!"
"Lars--" his mom said in a warning voice. "Jake, you go upstairs and wait in Lars room, you know where it is. Lars and I need to talk."
Jake hurried upstairs, embarrassed that even his childhood friend hated him now. He had been a jerk though. He entered Lars' room and took it in. It hadn't changed at all since they were kids. Lars was still a huge dork--um, a kid with some unique interests.
He looked at the computer, expecting to see WarCraft, and saw this weird Sims game. Lars had typed in the name of their town but not pressed enter. Jake read the back of the box which was on the desk.
"Change environments? I wish I could change the whole world," Jake said. He changed the first entry field to "The World" and pressed enter and when it asked for specifics, he typed "everyone in the world".
The options boxes then popped up. He checked "Orientation--gay, lesbian, bisexual" so the parents would stay together and some people would still have kids but everyone would be okay with homosexuality.
It then asked him to save and he said yes. A box popped up that said "Changes will take a night to take effect." Jake heard footsteps on the stairs and hurriedly closed the program and took the CD so that Lars wouldn't be able to see what he'd done and spread the rumor at school.
Lars walked in. "All right... I'll tutor you but you better know my mom is paying me damn good."
"Look man, I'm sorry for the way I treated you last year. Now I know what it's like."
"Well, too little too late, huh? Just get out man. Tutoring starts on Fridays."
Jake hung his head and walked out.
