Alice draped the sleeves of her shirt over the tiny brown claws that were once her hands. She had to get out of this office before anyone noticed. She wasn't sure why, but she felt like she had to escape.
She peered her head out from her cubicle to look for an exit. Aside from the suicidal choice of jumping out the window, it was between the elevator or the stairway next to it. Either way, she would have to make ways all the way across the office in order to reach either exit.
She plotted her route quickly in her head and began walking... no, hopping... but she quickly stopped herself before anyone noticed. Her hair was changing to a lighter tint of brown. She turned a corner...
Right into her obnoxious, slow, coworker-friend, Susan. She was a rather large, blond-haired woman, but she seemed inches taller as of a few minutes ago. "Hi Alice... long time no see," she said in her Southern drawl.
"Hi... Susan," Alice replied, more focused on getting away from her Southern friend than anything now.
"How was Austraaaaaaliaaaa? I heard you and your family won a trip..."
"That was... about a month ago, Susan... Listen, I really have to..."
"I had an aunt that lived in Austraaaaaaaliaaaa... I think... she used to take care of little kangaroos and wallabies..."
"That's nice, but..."
Her Southern drawl just wouldn't stop. "You seem to got a nice taaaan theeere... Your haaair looks nice, but does it has to be on your faaaace? Did you know they have kangarooooos in Austraaaaaaaaliaaaaaaa?"
Alice held her face in disbelief of the fur growing on it. Her humanity ticked away, inch by inch in size. Finally, she conceded.
"No, Susan!" Alice yelled sarcastically. "I did not know they had kangaroos in the only continent where kangaroos come from!! Can I please go now?!"
The office fell silent, and Alice began to hop the rest of the way there, dismayed. Her friend was completely shocked by what had happened. Alice would probably be indefinitely fired the next day, but did it really matter at this point?
Her coworkers quickly stood out of the way, and she acknowledged each while passing. "Hey Tom... Steve... Carol... Buck..." They all gawked as her legs became stronger, each of her shoes flying off her lengthening feet, her body covered in brown fur. She honestly didn't care at this point.
She arrived at the elevator and pressed the tiny button to go down. She stared at herself in the mirror reflection cast by the large doors of the elevator. She was transformed. If she wasn't completely a kangaroo, she definitely wasn't human. She turned to one of the nearby mail clerks passing by, looking at the tail sticking out from her dress.
"Am I still talking? Is my voice still normal?" She asked.
The clerk timidly nodded, as the elevator doors opened.
"Good... please tell Susan that I'm sorry for lashing out at her... this workplace is a jungle sometimes."
She turned slowly to the elevator doors. Things became extra awkward as she saw ________________ standing in the elevator.
