The Hungry Wolf

added by Ouroboros 15 years ago O

Eight feet tall, powerfully muscled, and impossibly strong, the changed doe stood staring at her hands. She had broken a boulder to pieces. It seemed almost weightless in her hands, and crumbled like mud. She smiled a little, flexing her hands, watching the muscles move under her soft fur.

She was no longer a deer. Nor was she human, she knew. She would not fit in either world. The deer wouldn't know what to make of her, and surely the humans would think she was a monster. And perhaps she was. The thought saddened and confused her, and she began to wonder what would become of her.

Her thoughts were interrupted suddenly by a sound of rustling in the undergrowth behind her. One of her large doe-ears twitched, and she felt a shiver run down her spine. Even before she registered the musky scent, her remaining animal instincts screamed "Predator!"

Slowly, she turned her head. Her sight, so much sharper in this new body, instantly locked on the yellow, sinister eyes peering at her from the shadows of the brush. It stood there, watching her, the most feared and hated animal in all the forest. The wolf.

It was not a healthy specimen. It was a small, pathetic thing, its grey and black fur filthy and ragged. It was terribly thin, clearly on the verge of starvation. The doe could clearly see the wolves ribs beneath its mangey fur. Watching her, it licked its lips hungrily.

The doe stayed perfectly still, frozen in place and terrified. She breathed slowly, deeply, heavy breasts slowly rising and falling. Suddenly, her new human-like mind snapped to a surprising conclusion. The wolf was confused. She realized then that she must smell like prey, yet looked like nothing the wolf had ever seen. It was trying to decide whether to attack.

Eight feet tall, muscled, and strong enough to crush a rock, the doe realized, on some level, that she could turn the tables. Perhaps she had nothing to fear from this beast, this predator. Yet her animal instincts remained, and they were screaming to run, to flee, to escape the starving predator.
