With a sudden snarl, the wolf leaped from the bushes, claws stretched out for the masssive doe-woman. Still startled by the sound of her human voice, the doe was caught off-guard. She yelled as the predator fell upon her, throwing out her arms defensively.
The wolf latched onto her left arm, digging its fangs deep into dense muscle. She fell backwards, crying out in pain. Branches snapped under her strong back, stinging her. The desperate, starving wolf worried at her arm, trying to tear at flesh that was proving extremely durable.
Pain turned to anger as the animal chewed at the doe's arm. With a growl, she thrust her arm out, throwing the wolf away. It landed with a yelp at the base of a large tree, then scrambled to its scrawny legs.
The doe got to her feet, one hand over the bloody wound the wolf had left in her arm. Already, it was hurting less, and when she glanced down, the wounds seemed to heal right before her eyes. Another effect of the strange river water. She grinned suddenly, seeing the inevitability of victory.
She charged towards the wolf, clasping her hands together and lifting them up over her head. Now it was the wolf that stood frozen, watching her approach. With a roar, the doe brought her massive arms down in a lethal hammer-blow. She clenched her eyes tight shut as the base of the huge tree burst, shattering into a thousand airborne splinters. The old tree creaked, slowly toppling over. And the wolf...?
