"REGEN is designed to simulate the ability of some creatures to regenerate lost limbs and
regrow nerve tissue. I don't know if it's possible for you to grow back your eye, but it
would be a perfect test, Sage. I should warn you, however, that there could be some side
effects."
Sage frowned slightly. "Like...what?"
"We haven't seen anything yet, but humans aren't designed to grow back missing body
parts. If there's a flaw in your DNA, the new tissue could be mutated or deformed."
Sage shrugged. "So I could get ugly. Is that all."
Marcy had serious doubts about letting Sage use the REGEN medication. Sure, it could
heal her body, but the younger woman had serious psychological trauma. If there were
negative side effects, it could send Sage over the edge. In the end, however, she passed
Sage the bottle of REGEN pills.
"Now remember, just one a day. And stick to the suggested diet, and get a lot of
excercise, ok honey? I'll see you in a week."
The first few days, Sage felt better, but it wasn't until the fourth day that she noticed her
scars had almost completely vanished. She seemed to be gaining muscle mass as well, her
figure was more trim, and she'd gotten some tone. She visited Skye that day, and even a
confrontation with her lover's father didn't dim her good mood.
The money she was earning would keep Skye alive...and who knows? This drug might
eventually help her!
The next day, Sage found her scars completely vanished, and she was the picture of
health. Her hair had grown considerably, and now reached her shoulders. Plus, her right
eye was itching like crazy. Could it actually come back?
Day six finally came, and she'd gained more muscle, even though it was only noticeable
when she flexed. Taking off her eyepatch, she'd found her eye had grown back, although
it was cloudy, and she couldn't see very well out of it.
Her clothing was a bit tighter on her, and measuring herself, she realized she'd actually
grown two inches during the week!
"Oh great, that's all I need, to get taller." She frowned, but only for a moment. She looked
like less of a stick figure, and she had to admit, maybe she was just a little cute. Tying her
hair (which now reached her back) into a ponytail, she went for a jog.
She was seeing better out of her right eye all the time, and by that afternoon, her vision
was better than ever; before she'd been a touch near sighted, but she could see clearly
much farther.
Her body was in a perfect state of health after six days, which made her wonder if she
should take the last pill before her check-up.
Unable to get in touch with Marcy, she decided nothing could go wrong, and took the last
pill before she went to bed.
