"I wish this suit fit me a little looser!" Jacob thought.
The pair swam on, keeping an even slow, steady pace, flipping at the same time at the wall, and breathing together, too.
Seth was starting to pull away from him, now, but thankfully the suit was feeling better now. He knew there'd still be red marks on his body once he took the suit off, but other than that, the suit was pretty great. Jacob started concentrating on his strokes and trying to catch up with Seth, but his mind kept wandering. He started thinking about what was going to be on tv tonight, and before he could even think about what shows he liked, he was thinking about what would be for dinner, and then just as quickly he was thinking about what he was going to do this weekend.
Seth was more than half a length ahead of him now, and Jacob was upset and decided to just give up. He swam back to the other end of the pool and hopped out. "What's the point of even trying, if he's already so far ahead of me." Jacob pouted to himself.
"Oh, hey! Water Polo!" Jacob cheered, as he saw a group of boys strapping on their caps and getting ready for a kid's scrimmage. "HEY, SETH!"Jacob hollered at his friend, not noticing that his friend hadn't lifted his head or hadn't even noticed he was being talked to, "I'm gonna go over and give those kids some tips. OKAY?" and with that, Jacob was off.
Seth knew Jacob had given up, but he kept on going to drive home how much more adult he was than Jacob. Seth was going to swim his full set and not just give up because Jacob had. Seth knew what he was showing off. It was called character, and he wanted Jacob to know he had it in spades, even if showing off like this meant he was actually pretty childish. Finally, he finished his set and languidly pulled himself out of the pool, expecting to see Jacob. Instead, he was greated by the high pitched yelling and cheering of a kid's water polo match going on in the small pool adjacent to his. There was one that really caught his attention. The little guy was just exploding with energy, telling the other kids what to do, getting them all rowdy and hyper, and stopping only long enough to take a swig from his gatorade bottle. Seth chuckled at him, the kid almost had to use two hands just to hold his drink. Now, he thought to himself, where the Hell did Jacob go.
