“Could you help me please?”
Amber blinks looking around with clear surprise showing upon her face as a light breeze causes her to begin thinking about the coat she left at home. “Where are you?”
“Here!”
“I’m sorry but I still do not see you. Are you hiding?” she asks standing beside the sign pole as she notices it looks alot like a totem pole. The only animal in sight is a small brown and red husky who is busy wagging its tail while watching Amber.
“Right in front of you. Got my foot stuck in this snare. Please help me.” The dog whines as its eyes take a pleading look.
“You’re a dog? But dogs can not talk....can they?”
I’m talking now and I look like a dog? Sorry do not mean to be short with you but my leg really does hurt.”
“Oh!” Amber says at once bending down to release the husky who then gives her face a friendly lick.
“Please follow me.” The husky replies limping down a trail to the left.
“Well ok.”
“It’s not far at all and I know they will want to meet the one who saved me.”
“Who is they? Your owners?”
“No my team.” The dog says looking back at the human then limping farther down the trail and around a bend. “Hurry!”
“Wait up!” Amber says starting to feel like a kid again at running after a strange dog. “Do you have a name?” But as she comes around the bend she stops in surprise as a group of eight huskies’ and malamutes stare at her. “Hello.”
“This is the girl I was just telling you guys about. She has come to help us.” Offers the brown and red husky wagging its tail rapidly. “Why name? Well you never said yours.”
“I’m Amber.” She says looking to the group of dogs slightly puzzled now.
“Are you sure you are able to help us?” asks a big malamute while his teammates begin panting while staring at Amber. “You look to be a bit slow.”
“I can run as fast as anyone in my class.” Amber says a bit defensively. “What did you need help with?”
The brown and red husky barks and tail wags faster. “Told you she can help us Keulu.” Limping over to a partly over turned sled nosing it. “Names Iiumni. Can you please right this sled for us Amber?”
Keulu sighs then gives himself a shake. “She looks like a runt to me Iiumni. What do you others think?” he says looking to the other team dogs who quickly find other places to look while tails droop.
“I can too help!” Amber says righting the sled then looking to the only dog that has been nice to her so far.”
“Good girl Amber.” Iiumni barks while settling himself upon the sled careful of the hurt leg. “Now pick up the spare hardness please.
Keula snorts as if giving his opinion of the human while the rest of the team crowd around the sled and begin lining up in front of it in twos.
Amber finds herself puzzled but as her fingers settle upon the dog hardness she smiles feeling good at being told she is good.
“Now slip it on and hurry as we are all ready late.” Iiumni yips finding himself grow excited as the team gets ready for the trail.
“I feel find of strange Iiumni.” Amber says while sliding herself into the hardness then pauses as she hears her pants splitting down the back.
“Do not worry about your clothes Amber. Good girl. Just hurry and get into your place before the sled.” Keula says suddenly more accepting of the new team female as he watches the newly formed tail behind her give a slow wag.
