Jake wasn't expecting a call from his uncle JT, who had been disowned by much of the family as a lunatic, but that's just whose name showed up on his cellphone as he was about to pull his truck out of the bowling alley parking lot. He sighed and answered his cellphone anyway.
"Hey Jake, I know this may be a bit sudden, but I have to go on a short trip. I'm setting up this timed message in case something comes up and I'm delayed longer than I expect. If you're hearing this, I left two days ago. Anyway, the point of this is that I really need you to watch my shop. I know your mom probably said not to ever go there, but I promise its perfectly safe."
Jake was just about to hang up the phone when the next part caught his attention.
"I know you're probably about to hang up the phone by now, but keep in mind that for watching the store, I can pay you part time. How does 10 dollars an hour sound? You don't even have to open the shop, just watch it from 8am to 4pm. Surely you can give up a few summer days to do your uncle a paid favor, right? I'm counting on you. Oh, and don't mess with the -"
The message ended abruptly with a beep, having reached the limit of alloted time. Jake cursed his phone once again for that annoying feature and hung up his phone. He continued maneuvering out of the cramped lot and drove over to 'JT's Miscellaneous Items Emporium.' After getting out of his truck, he found an envelope on the door simply marked, "Thanks J!, -JT," with the door key inside.
The interior of the store looked like it hadn't been dusted in ages, much less open for business. It even resembled an old attic, Jake realized. After about 10 minutes of looking around, he was already bored and was considering what to do to entertain himself.
