Joanne struggled to control herself, finally managing to reign her animal side in. She was still breathing heavy, but it seemed that she had gotten it in check.
Kristy was looking quizzically at us, her eyes focused right on Joanne. "Is..umm, everything okay?" she asked.
"Yeah, yeah," I said, trying to come up with some sort of a cover for her behavior, and mine for that matter. "Joanne's just come down with something lately."
"It looked like her eyes were yellow for a second," Kristy said, still staring at Joanne.
"I'm sure it was just a trick of light," I said. Joanne kept her head down, staring at the floor, rather unresponsive. She had a grip on the situation, but was struggling to maintain it. This whole thing could get out of control if things suddenly went poorly, I realized.
"Were you growling, Joanne?" Kristy asked, "Because it sounded like you were growling for a second." Kristy's voice held an almost seductive tone when she asked that question. If I didn't know better, I'd have thought she was turned on.
"That's just silly, Kristy. Why would she be growling?" I asked, trying to disuade her from the whole thing.
"If she'd caught lycanthropy, it'd be completely logical," Kristy said, quite matter of factly.
Joanne's head snapped up, staring at Kristy in amazement. "What did you say?" she asked, her voice back to normal.
"If you were a werewolf, those symptoms would be totally normal," Kristy restated. "Are you a werewolf, Joanne?"
"What?" I blurted out, hoping Kristy didn't see the shock on Joanne's face. "Kristy, I think we both know that Joanne's not a werewolf."
Kristy continued to smile, revealing she was pretty damn sure of herself. "Well, I could be wrong, that's why I dumped Chad. I was sooo sure he was a werewolf...but he wasn't. Such a shame. He ran when he found out about me."
"Found...out about you?" I asked, a strange combination of aroused, scared, and amazed.
Kristy smiled at me, her eyes fading to yellow, and the tips of her ears stretching through her hair.
