Marsha, Helen, and Jenny ran down through the main gates of the park. The massive wood and metal doors welcoming them through the massive stone arch. Marsha pointed and laughed at the giant donkey head in the center of the arch as the crowd of girls bottlenecked at the gates. Marsha looked around at the girls who ranged anywhere from 12 and 13 all the way to 18 and 19 years old. The park was totally theirs with no rules and no boundaries. Once through, the crowd was quick to disperse to the various attractions.
The three girls couldn’t wait to try anything and everything they could. “Come on,” Helen shouted as she pulled Marsha’s hand. Marsha grabbed Jenny’s hand and the tree ran to the first roller coaster.
The cars filled up fast, but there was never much of a wait for the next group. The previous riders seem disoriented and very wet. Some of them are coughing as they step off, but quickly recover and race to the exit. A new set of cars arrived for the girls and they pushed their way to the front rows. They sat bouncing in their seat waiting for the ride to get underway. Marsha looked up at the greasy and grizzly looking ride attendant who simply pulled a lever and the car started to move.
All the girls cheered and yelled to the girls below as the car rose higher and higher on the track. Everyone raised their arms up high as the car rocketed over the crest of the first hill and down into twists and spirals. The roar of the coaster was almost loud enough to drown out the girls’ screams of joy as they hit loop after loop.
The car rose up another hill and then plummeted down toward a cave. The cave opening was shaped like a donkey’s head with the track going into the wide open mouth. They scream with laughter as they fly into the mouth of the donkey and through a cavern. As they twist and turn through the cave they are suddenly sprayed with a thick fog. Not just a fog, but blasts of dust and water hit them too.
Everyone coughs at the thickness of it as strobe lights blast all around them. Then the car plunges down into a waterfall and winds back around. It slows and clacks as it comes to a stop back at the beginning. The three girls exit the ride, not quite sure what to make of it. “What was all that about,” Marsha asked. “Oh, come on, it’s like a joke, they spray us with foam and fog and stuff,” Helen assures them. “I guess it was kind of funny, in a sick way. I certainly didn’t expect it,” Jenny chimes in.
The girls just nod and walk, dripping wet, back to the boardwalk.
