The fiery blood red glow of sunset fades as the vast deep blue of dusk sets upon the sky while you shuffle along haplessly, kicking your feet against the pavement and sighing. It's a Friday night that begs to be taking advantage of but there is not much to do and most of your friends are preoccupied with other plans and activities. You come to a stop and lean against the cobblestone wall behind you, sliding to the ground. You begin to wish that you could have a friend for all the time. They would always be there willing to have fun or do something with you, no matter what.
But realistically, you know that is not a probable situation in the least and pull out your cellphone, filtering through the list of contacts in hopes there is someone you overlooked. You are surprised when your phone starts ringing. Switching out of the contacts screen, you notice the listed contact is an old friend of yours you rarely see much of anymore, Paul. Wondering what he might want and hoping maybe you'll have some plans now afterall, you answer with a near desperate sounding, "Hello?"
"Hey buddy, what's shaking?" Paul answers back.
"I'm bored out of my skull, what about you?" you reply back.
Paul answers with a glowing tone in his voice, "I have something really awesome to show you. My parents are out of town for the weekend so we won't have to worry about them interfering. Want to come over?"
You almost barely let him finish before you pipe out, "Sure thing, I'll be over in five," before you hang up. Jumping back onto your feet, you trot along to your friend Paul's house in a content manner, whistling as you do. You can only think to yourself that it will be especially nice to have some plans with your old friend that will allow you to get back in touch. This makes you ponder back to what caused you two to drift apart in the first place. You remember that he had been getting heavily into the furry/transformation community for a while there. It was a very bizarre display to you and was weirding you out, plus everyone had been harassing you about the fact you were friends with a weirdo.
Granted, the whole notion of transformation and the furry fandom still made you uneasy but in all honesty, Paul tried to keep it to himself and if it is his preference, who are you to tell him otherwise?
Finally you reach the front door of Paul's house and just as you are about to knock, he opens the door and pulls you inside, practically shouting vigorously, "Come on, you have GOT to see THIS!" As he drags you up the stairs to his room, you are first a little surprised but figure he must be glad to see you too. As the both of you burst into his room, he lets go of your hand as you plop a seat onto his bed. A little disoriented, you inquire, "So, what's this big thing you have to show me?"
Paul only begins to grin from ear to ear and runs over to his closet, open it only slightly as he reaches in and turns his head to the side, replying back, "Here it is."
As he pulls his arm from out of the closet, a very detailed animal costume is unveiled from its darkness.
