"Carrie!" John yelped.
"Now what is-John?! Why are you-!? Where is your-?! How are you a-!!" Carrie was so flabbergasted she couldn't even form complete sentences!
John hoped what he had suffered so far was the end of the changes, but if he really was becoming a Toon pet, then he dreaded to think what might happen to him next. Toon pets were tertiary characters at best and background characters at worst. Not to mention they didn't speak and weren't known for act more different from mundane animals except perhaps being more clever.
His vacation into this reality where the laws of reality changed places with the law of visual story telling and fiction with his wife had quickly taken a turn for the worst!
If this change was going to cost him his mind he had to get what he was going to say right away! Before he forgot who his wife was.
"Carrie! I tried on a collar I found as a prank! It made my clothes vanish and altered me! Carrie! Toon pets don't speak and aren't normally allowed centric roles! We've GOT to find a way to cure me or at least change my character until we can find a cure!"
"John! Just take it off!" Carrie reached for the collar, and felt smooth.. skin? Paint? Celloid? She wasn't sure.
"It won't come off! It's a part of me! Carrie you've got to help me!"
John wagged his tail in agitation... tail?.. He looked behind... yes... he had a tail... he was too depressed to notice what species.
"We've got tot talk to the shop owner! He's got to know a way to fix this!!" Carrie said.
Plot convenience struck as the ink and paint husky from before came up before his prospective customer and saw John. "Oh my. Oh dear. I knew I left that stupid plot device around here somewhere!"
"Plot device?" Carrie said having not noticed John's new tail--yet!
"Duh! What do you THINK it is? I just thought I had it in the back of the shop!"
"What is happening to my husband!"
"Well Miss, as you can plainly see, he's ceasing to be human, a material fact, and is becoming a toon, an expressive idea, right now he's being impressed with the motif that was engrained into the plot device!"
"Cure him right now!"
"Madam... I don't think I can."
"But! But that's impossible! Everything that happens in Toon World is supposed to be temporarily!"
"... only if you're a human being."
