"Hold up a minute," Serj panted.
Stopping, James turned toward her friend who was struggling behind. And she could understand why. Serj was having the same problem as her. One, their shoes were too big and better suited for a set of male feet. Second, these clothes were made for a woman who was obviously bigger not only in height, but also the chest, waist, hips and butt.
Sighing, James looked past Serj. They had only walked half of a block and looking directly at Serj saw that she had stopped.
Before she could say anything Serj began taking off her shoes and socks. Serj than turned and ran back to the house and disappeared inside. Hoping her friend wasn't going back to change clothes, James stood there, enjoying the breeze that was blowing up her dress and across her legs. It also felt nice against her face, arms and face.
Brushing her hair out her eyes, she saw Serj coming out of the house, fooling with something around her waist.
Stopping, she picked up her shoes and socks and ran to catch up to James. James could see that the waist on the overalls Serj was wearing was synched tightly around her waist.
Their next stop was when the girls were passing the Patterson house. Ducking into the house, James back out after a couple of minutes. Holding up a small change purse she commented, "Got almost a hundred dollars saved up. I was going to purchase the new video game, but I think I'm going to need some clothes more than I'll need a video game." With this said, she stuffed the change purse in the only pocket on the dress.
Serj remarked, "I have my allowance with me as well. I was thinking of looking of for a garage or yard sale on the way and hope I can find a pair of shoes that fit."
James smiled at this and the two continued on their way. A couple blocks down, they found their first garage sale, but found nothing they wanted to purchase. It was then that James noticed that Serj was no longer carrying her shoes and socks and asked about this.
Serj, who was looking through a box of shoes, said to this, "I left them back at your place, just inside the garage."
-----------
It wasn't until they came to their fourth yard sale, a block event, that James and Serj found what they were looking for. Serj found a pair of ice blue slip-on sneakers. James found a pair of sneakers and boots that fit. Plus, the boots really complemented her dress.
It was as they continued walking that Serj piped up and said, "You know we can't keep going by our old names if were going to look like this?"
Nodding James said, "Yes, I've thinking on the same thing. The only thing I can think of is if I'm going to be a female for a while, I'd like to be called by the female version of my name, Jamie. Plus, it's what my mom said she would have called me if I had been born a girl. It was either that or Susie."
"Lucky you," Serj grimaced. "I was going to be named after great-grandma Carine if I'd been born female. I don't really know any girls names, except all the ones I hear at school and those girls are really stuck up."
"We could call you Carrie?" James suggested.
Serj nodded and replied, "That sounds good. There are no girls named Carrie at our Junior High. So what should I call you, Jamie or Susie?"
James thought for a bit and finally said, "I think I'd like to be known as Beth. Jamie is to close to my male name and I know a girl name Susie. She's a majour tramp from what I heard."
Grinning, James and Serj, now Beth and Carrie, continued their walk to the library. Then two blocks from the library, well into the downtown area of the city, Beth stopped as she saw something she recognized. Carrie, who did not realize that Beth was no longer with her, had to turn and jog back to her friend. Looking at Beth she asked, "What is it?"
Pointing across the street Beth quietly announced, "That's the store from my dreams."
Looking across the street, Carrie could see a large department like store with a sign that announced in big red letters, 'Malarkey's Uniform Plus'.
Not waiting for Carrie, Beth started to cross the street and enter the building. Sighing, Carrie followed after her best friend across the road and into the business. The library was temporary forgotten and inside the girls saw......
