With all of the serum injected into his arm Baxter felt the first of a series of tingles that
began to spread across his body. Soon his skin felt cold to the touch, almost metallic, in
fact, it was. Quickly he noticed this metallization spreading across his body; his flesh disappearing as if it were melting. Eventually the tingling spread into his head. His
thoughts began to move more rapidly than he had ever felt before in his life. Soon, these
thoughts were being broken down in his mind into strings of numbers. He turned his
head, actually snapped it back and forth, soon reprocessing and relearning all of his
movements. Then he spoke, in a genderless and mechanical voice:
"Beginning rebooting sequence." Baxter lost consciousness for a second then, his metallic
grey frame sprung back to life. "Model # 412 Alpha awaiting programming."
All of this was involuntary to Baxter, yet somehow, in the back of this robot's mind,
perhaps stored as redundant file, Baxter the human was in there, unable to be deleted he
was along for the ride.
"Model #412 Alpha please proceed to diagnostic station 1" the scientist said. Immediately
Baxter involuntarily stood and mechanically proceeded to a platform where he attached his
left hand into a small data port. The scientist eagerly read the information as it came on
the screen and partially sighed. "Like the older models it seems you were unable to delete
the old personality files. However, it seems we've worked it so that Baxter won't interfere
with your functions. We'll have you prepared for the next phase, you may step down."
Immediately Baxter unplugged himself from the dataport and stepped off. What remained
of the man was unable to interpret this information. On the one hand he'd still be around,
maybe he could find a way to control this robot body of his. On the other hand, he had no
idea what his functions would be.
