"Where are you going?" The young man asked Tom.
"I've got to get back to my house. My wife needs me."
"Can't we stop at the hospital? It's just right off the highway up here."
Tom didn't like the idea. "Listen, uh.. What's your name?"
"I'm Mark."
"Mark, my daughter was downtown tonight, and my wife and I couldn't get a hold of her.
My wife called me just before our collision, she wasn't making much sense."
"Well.. They were saying on the radio earlier that they had brought some of the injured to
the hospital. You could talk with the police there, or use the phone. Maybe you could find
your daughter."
It kind of made sense to Tom. He needed to get in touch with the police, and this was
probably the only way. Mark was wincing and groaning on and off, the wound was
probably worse than he made it out to be. They needed to go to the hospital.
Driving up to the emergency room, the two men saw several ambulances in front.
"That's a lot of people." Mark observed.
The two got out of the truck, Tom taking his shotgun with him. Walking up to the
entrance, Mark moaned in pain. Tom came to him and helped hold him up.
"Mark, are you okay?" He asked him.
"I don't know! It's burning."
"Let's get inside."
What they saw inside was something short of a warzone. Chairs were all over,
magazines, paper and blood littered the floor. The corpse of a
police officer lay on the floor, his torso ripped open and the entrails strewn about.
"Jesus Christ!" Mark exclaimed.
Across the waiting room, three bodies lay motionless. One of them was completely nude.
"What the hell?" Tom asked aloud. "Do you see that?"
"Yea."
"What is going on in this town?"
They walked down a hallway towards the operation room area.
"Hello?! Is there anyone here?" Tom shouted. No response. "Okay, let's keep going,
they've got to be hiding somewhere."
Tom continued on, helping Mark along, when Mark suddenly crumpled to the floor.
"Mark! Mark! What's wrong?"
"I can't fucking go any more! It hurts!!"
Tom tried to reassure Mark, get him back up. "C'mon Mark, listen to me! It's going to be
okay! We're going to get you help!"
Mark screamed. He thrashed his body, knocking Tom to the side. Something was
seriously wrong with him.
