The sirens blared and lights flashed. A few of the remaining scientists peered at flashing screens and, in a panic, roared orders back and forth. Absolute chaos reigned.
In the midst, an attractive, but severe woman entered the room. She stood, sighing, watching the mess. Finally, she clicked a button on a remote and the lights and sirens stopped, leaving the scientists to chatter excitedly until they realized the noise had stopped.
The woman walked to the nearest bearded scientist, "Dr. Klingman. What. The. Hell. Is. Going. On."
He blinked for a moment, then launches excitedly, "The genetic combinatory virus worked...an absolute success! We successfully blended two distinct animals into a single entity! It's a complete success! All that needs to happen is one infected being to touch another, and they permantly bond into a single new entity. It's amazing!"
The woman continued to stare.
"The sirens, Klingman..."
He was flustered and couldn't quite put his thoughts together.
"Anytime...."
"Well...it seems...well...the process took longer than expected and we thought there was a failure, so we jettisoned the original batch. Unfortunately, we didn't want to take the time to do the complete destruction of the virus, since it didn't seem to work...and, well...it's out. Outside. In the population..."
The woman walked to the window and looked down over the city. She sighed, "Well, gentlemen, get your notepads ready. We're about to see a bigger test than we expected. Watch the news and be ready to scramble to any outbreaks..."
