This is the story of Sean, an eighteen year old high school senior who was a bit of a nerd. One Friday, while walking home from school (he didn't own a car yet much to his own consternation), he noticed a glittering piece of jewelry, which he quickly scooped up and pocketed, to look at again once he was home. When he got there, he noticed his mom and older sister packing up his mom's car. They were going to go camping for the weekend, something that Sean found incredibly boring, so Sean was staying at home this weekend by himself. (Sean's father was no longer in the picture, having left when he was five years old.)
"Don't forget to take that pile of old clothes to Goodwill," Sean's mother told him. Sean was going to be allowed to drive his sister's car while they were gone but this freedom came with this one bit of responsibility. The pile of clothes had been gathered from their closets full of clothes they had outgrown as well as clothes that their neighbors had dropped off with them so that the clothes could all be taken in just one trip.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Sean replied. Once Sean's mom and sister had left, he remembered the medallion he had found and put it on. It wasn't really his style, but it looked cool enough that he'd wear it today, then probably throw it away or try to sell it or something later. He then spent the rest of the day watching TV and playing video games. Then, around midnight, he was going to take a shower and stumbled over the pile of old clothes, knocking clothes everywhere, As he started reorganizing the old clothes, grabbing one pile and moving it close to another pile, he didn't notice or care that one of the old shirts was touching the medallion, but he did notice as he felt a strange tingling run throughout his body. He dropped the shirts, but it was too late. He was beginning to shrink.
He quickly stripped out of his clothes so that he wouldn't be enveloped by them as he shrank faster and faster,or to be more precise, de-aging faster and faster, until he finally stopped, once he reached the age of 9 years old.
"Oh, fuck, I'm a little kid now!" he yelled. His pubic hair that he was so proud of was gone, and his genitalia had shrunk down to their pre-puberty size.
Sean quickly realized what must have happened. The medallion he had found must be magic! Somehow touching his old clothes had turned him into a copy of the person he was nine years ago. He ran back to his room and tried touching the medallion to clothes he had worn more recently... but no luck. He was stuck as a 9 year old kid!
Did the medallion have only one "charge"? Was he stuck this way forever? For the rest of the day, he moped, watching TV (mostly cartoons which felt right somehow). Every few hours, he tried again, but nothing happened. He went to bed, frustrated and worried that he'd have to grow up all over again. His friends would never let him live it down.
In the morning, he tried changing back again. Still no luck. Well, he didn't want to be cooped up indoors on the weekend, so he pulled out some of his old clothes from the Goodwill pile and got dressed. Then, after watching just a few more cartoons (after all, it was Saturday morning), he decided to go for a walk. His path took him past the park with a playground full of kids, merrily playing.
"I remember back when I thought that sort of thing was fun," Sean thought to himself. And then, he realized some inner part of himself couldn't resist the thought of playing like the child he appeared to be. Soon, he was having just as much fun as the other children.
