Andrew watched for a while before heading outside for a bit. She made her way up to the top of the hill under which Laurel's cave was located, and laid down on the soft grass, basking in the sun. The stress of the previous day and the discomfort of sleeping on rock had taken their toll on her, and it wasn't long until she was taking a brief nap.
By the time she woke and returned to the cave, Laurel had finished and donned her new shirt, and was roasting a couple more slices of meat, as it was around lunchtime. "Well?" she said, "what do you think?"
Andrew really didn't think much about clothes at all, but Laurel had put a lot of work into it, and the light blue floral pattern actually looked pretty nice against her pale green skin. "Nice," Andrew replied.
Laurel smiled. "Thanks. Food?"
Andrew nodded, and the two of them ate. After they had had lunch, Laurel began packing. Andrew tried to help as best as she could, but beyond holding the satchel, there wasn't a lot she could do. Still, they weren't taking a lot, so it went fairly quickly. Andrew left the cave, her satchel over one shoulder, but Laurel lingered for a moment at the entrance.
"Homesick already?" Andrew joked. Laurel smiled sadly. "Well, it's been my home for almost three years now, and I've put a lot of work into it. And, well, I guess I've kinda gotten attached to it, and who knows what'll have happened to it if we ever come back..."
Andrew placed a wing on her shoulder. "It'll be okay," she said. "I mean, it's not going to stop being just because it gets a little messed up, right?"
Laurel shook her head. "No, I suppose not. But it's like having kids; you can't help but worry." She slithered out onto the rocky ledge above the pool. "I guess we should get going."
The two girls walked off towards the other side of the woods, glad to be on their way.
