Dan's mother went and sat in the lounge room, wondering if Kat was going to pass this test. She felt bad about leaving Dan in the condition he was in, but Kat's test had to come first. Dan would be himself again soon enough, whatever the outcome.
----
As Dan's mother walked away, Dan felt her spell fading - it felt like the soft light of the sun beaming down on him. Without thinking, Dan looked around for the sunlight hungrily, but the room was dark because the blinds were closed - the only light was coming from Kat's bedside lamp, and the light from that lamp felt harsh and empty.
Dan began to feel... thirsty, he supposed. It didn't quite feel like normal human thirst, but the thought of soaking his feet in water seemed like a wonderful idea. He felt wilted, and he realised it wasn't just because of his predicament - he really did need watering.
Clearing his... throat?... he tries to grab Kat's attention. She ignored him, as she worked on her homework. Dan started to worry - he didn't know how long he'd be able to last without water, and Kat didn't seem to be "taking care of her belongings" as his mother had told her to.
Dan started to move around as much as he could, calling out to her, trying to get her to pay attention. Kat studiously paid him no mind. Dan felt his energy starting to seriously sap from all of the effort he was putting into getting her attention. He wilted further, and decided to see just how far he could get without her help. He carefully twisted in his pot until he could latch his leaves onto the mirror.
Focusing, he pulled, and slowly, ever so slowly, his pot began to move. Encouraged, Dan continued to work his slow way towards the door. The bathroom wasn't far from Kat's room, and he could get himself plenty of water there. It took about an hour, but he found himself at the door, feeling even more wilted than before, but now determined to quench his thirst.
Then, Kat looked up from her homework, and saw him, his leaves entwined around the lower hinge of the door. Dan froze in mid-pull, and watched as Kat got up and walked towards him.
