(This story is in first person)
As I drank the water, I felt a strange feeling running all over my body. It felt kind of like a bad itch that I just couldn't scratch. Ignoring it, I walked back out of the woods and back to my house.
Stepping into my house, I went up to my room and got dressed for school. Grabbing my bag, I walked out the door and over to the bus stop. Getting on the bus, I felt the odd itch again, but ignored it. As the bus pulled up to the school, I got out and, after saying hello to a couple of my friends, ran inside.
As I sat down for my first class, I felt the itching all over again. But this time it wouldn't go away. As my teacher walked in, my vision suddenly went white and I fell out of my desk. The last thing I heard was someone shouting about an ambulance.
(What is happening to me?)
As I came to, I felt like someone was shaking me while wearing soft mittens. Blinking my eyes open, I saw what looked like a dog shaking me awake. "AUUGHH!" I screamed, jumping away from the dog and tripping over my tail. Wait, my TAIL? Looking down at myself, I saw that I was naked, and my entire body was covered with grey and black fur. A long tail with black rings on it stretched out from my spine. Looking at my reflection in the window, I saw that I had a furry muzzle replacing my human mouth, and my ears were now on the top of my head. Suddenly I remembered something from my summer on my uncle's farm. I was a raccoon. "What happened?" I asked myself, suddenly suprised to find that I could still speak.
Looking around, I saw that I wasn't the only one changed. My teacher had always described our class as a zoo, but now it was actually true.
"Jake, your outburst was completely out of line! Sit down now or I'll give you a detention!" My teacher, Mrs. Goldbaum shouted. Looking at her, I saw that her typical flowery dress now covered what resembled a fully grown sow. "But, you're a pig!" I shouted. "Yes! I'm a pig, you're a raccoon, that boy's a deer, and our President is a chihuahua!" Mrs. Goldbaum shouted. "NOW SIT DOWN!" I walked over to my seat and collapsed into it, suprised at the specially modified chair as it modeled itself to my new form. "Now class." Mrs. Goldbaum continued. "We'll be starting our history unit on the Revolutionary War today." She held up a picture of a beaver wearing a military uniform. "Now who can tell me who this is?" President Washington" the class recited. "Very good." Mrs. Goldbaum praised. "Now on to the British Generals". I wondered for a moment about what was going on, but then decided to just go with it and try to figure out a strategy when I got home. But then a thought struck me. What would my parents be?
*The virus has snuck its way into the town's water supply from the stream it was poured into. The town, a major water refinery, bottled the virus water and shipped it out all over the country and the world. Pretty soon, everyone turned into an animal, and history modified itself to fit this mold. Jake is a special case, as he is the only one who remembers his humanity.
