Not long after the Sand Siblings let them pass, Jen and the others came to a river. The river was deep and the surface was slightly rough. A small dock ran out to the center.
"Here's our stop. Let's set up for lunch. In the meantime Jen, try walking on the water." said Naruto.
"Right nya." said Jen. She ran to the end of the dock. "Okay, a Sirene State of Mind nya." Jen pictured the puddle again then stepped into the river. *Splash* She sank, the water heated slightly where she fell in.
"Huh? Just as I thought. Domon, that trick of yours won't work here." said Naruto.
"You might want to check on her, she hasn't come up yet." said Domon.
"Jen!" yelled Naruto. He ran to the end of the dock, dived in and rescued Jen.
Jen spat out some water and coughed. "Huh? What happened nya?" asked Jen.
"You fell in." said Naruto.
"That's wierd, I was always a great swimmer back home nya." said Jen.
"You're part phoenix. Water is your elemental opposite. Of course you can't swim." said Domon.
"I'll just try again nya." said Jen.
"Wait!" said Naruto.
"Don't try to stop me nya!" yelled Jen.
"Here's a hint; a tree is solid, it never moves. But water is liquid, forever shifting. When I learned, that's all Pervey Sage told me so that's all I'm telling you." said Naruto.
"Hmm... Oh! I get it nya! The water keeps moving so I have to vary the amount of chakra I'm using to stay afloat nya!" said Jen.
"Now you've got it." said Naruto. Jen stepped into the water, sank an inch, and stopped sinking. "Your close." said Naruto.
"I need to use more chakra nya." said Jen. She focused more and her talons rose to the surface. "I did it nya."
"Lunch is ready!" said Rain.
"AHHH!" Jen fell into the water.
"Jen!" Naruto dove in again and rescued Jen. "Well, you passed. Next time, try not to lose your concentration." said Naruto. He laid her down near the fire and put her middle tail in the pot. After she ate, she fell asleep without saying a word.
