It was even better then Sully thought. Letting Beulah have her old memories while leaving her rather unintelligent and undereducated has been interesting. She was acting on her old impulses while remaining the person she is now. Sully was going to play around with her. If Beulah's old personality started to that control, it would be easy enough to get an other treatment at his Aunt Kim's salon.
"So, how are my two favorite ladies?"
Susan gives Sully a kiss. Beulah looks down and mutters, "I is fine Mista Sully."
"Susan, take the rest of the day off and go to my aunt's place. Tonight is going to be a big night and Aunt Kim will have you ready. A day of being pampered will do you good. And Miss Brown, come and see me in my office when your shift is over." Susan looked so happy to be leaving. I waddled away, afraid for what could happen to Susan. If Sully had me turned into me, who knows what he will do to her.
After my shift was over, I went with great fear in my heart to Sully's office.
"Hello Beulah. Have a seat. I am sure you legs are tired."
I ease myself onto the folding chair in front of his desk. "Thank you, Mista Sully."
"Beulah, as you know, I am going to ask for Susan's hand in marriage. And she will accept. I am sure know how that will happen."
"Yes, Mista Sully, I know."
"So the question is what are we going to do with you? I am sure you still have feelings for Susan."
I try looking down at the floor but there is too much of me. I end up looking down at my breasts and stomach. I do not want to answer him.
"Beulah, you are going to have a choice here but you must answer me. Do you love Susan?"
"Yes sir, Mista Sully, I still love Miss Paxon."
"Well Beulah, I could have you changed back. But she and I will be married and you would never be in her life again. Also, I want you to think about your old life. How much can you remember?"
"What do you mean, Mista Sully? I 'member I was a white guy."
"Yes. But can you remember your college classes? Can you remember your degree?"
"Mista Sully, it was the white guy who went to college. I could not get through high school. I think I have his feelings."
Sully smiled this. "But you can stay in Susan's life. Remember our 'date' last week."
"Yes sir."
"What do you think of being our maid?"
"Wha?"
"I will make it worth it for you, Beulah Brown. You will still be able to see Susan. And you can have help with you health."
I am perplexed."What do ya mean?"
"A woman of your girth? You must get sore all the time. And you are a heart attack waiting to happen."
"Yes sir, Mista Sully. My back, legs and feet get awfully sore. A heart attack?"
"Yes Beulah. Overweight middle aged black women like you are very prone to that. But regular visits to my aunt's place will help out. It is better then health insurance."
"But what about my job here?"
"Being a maid for Susan and me will be your new job."
Being with Susan sounded so good. And strangely, being a maid appealed to me more than I wanted to admit. But Sully also said I could become my old self.
"Mista Sully? Ya said I could become a man again?"
"Yes Beulah Brown, you can. But you would never see Susan again. And could you life that life again?"
"I canno understand most of my ole life and I would miss Susan greatly."
"So will you work for us? As our housekeeper? Susan will still be working here. She can use the help"
I was both dreading and embracing this. "Yes sir, Mista Sully. I will be yous and Susan's maid."
"Great! Today is your last day here. Susan and I will be moving into a new home. Come back here tomorrow at nine. You can get started on getting our place ready."
Did I just say no to being a man again?
