As you start to make your way down the side of the building, Jim appears.
“Have you decided what you’re going to be yet?”
“Actually, I have, Jim…”
“My name’s Joe.”
You droop your tail. “I’m sorry, Joe. I’m not that great with names. But let me get to the point and pardon my bluntness, but I do have an appointment to get to. I really don’t want to remain a common gray. Rita says your gay. Is that correct?”
Joe hesitates a moment and then nods.
“Then I’m going to disappoint you. I’m straight and intend to remain that way. Look, if you haven’t read the contact yet.”
“What contract?”
You sigh chitter. “Et tu? Go into the commune, and it might still be called up on the PDA. If not, call up the zoo’s Squirrel Transformation Contract. Anyway, read through it. You might be violating it. That’s grounds for them to ship you off into the wilderness.”
“No internet access?” You shake your head in the negative. “No easy meals?” Again you shake your head. Joe droops his tail. “But…”
“Look, Joe. They changed us from human to intelligent squirrels. A sex change shouldn’t be too hard if that’s what you want. The worst they’re going to say is no. Now, I apologize for having to be so abrupt, but I need to get down to the administrator and finish this since I can’t go back to being human.”
