The rest of the day was very strange for Daryn. His "missing" clothes never did show up, of course. Eventually one of the teachers let him (well, Her now, he had to admit to himself) take a T-shirt from the lost-and-found box. It was a little too big, but it attracted fewer odd looks than the hospital gown at any rate.
Of course, she mused to herself, it was still a little odd that people were giving her more odd looks at her hospital gown than her tail. The shirt smelled old and musty, and had probably been there for a few months. Daryn was almost certain it was originally owned by a boy. Which of course didn't really bother her much, (she wasn't sure she could bring herself to wear a blouse, and was a little relieved when there wasn't one in the Lost-and-found) but did mean that it was a little looser than she was used to.
As soon as she had satisfied the teachers with proper attire, Daryn tried to return to the library to look for the book. She spent the entire rest of her library period searching, but the book was nowhere to be found. Eventually, (after a gentle reminder from a librarian) she had to return to class for the rest of her day. Before she left, she looked around for her school backpack. At first she thought it had vanished, along with the mysterious book, until a helpful librarian handed her something that looked like a cross between a purse and a satchel. A quick look inside revealed that it had her books in it. Interesting. Apparently now, she wore this instead of a backpack? She thanked the librarian and tried not to run (well, slither) too quickly, while she looked for a quiet place to check her wallet.
According to student ID, her name was no longer Daryn, but instead was "Dawn". The photo pictured the cute high-school girl that he had come to realize she now was, at least from the waist up. The only other odd bit was a "Species" label, that she didn't remember before, which claimed that she was a "Lamia". Everything else looked about the same. Her phone number and address were still the same, and all her books were the ones she remembered.
With a sigh, she squared her shoulders, and headed off to her last class of the day.
