Harken, The Chosen

added 14 years ago O

Sunday was yet another glorious day. The sun was shining, not a cloud in the sky, children and teenagers alike flooded the suburbs. A young soul surely wouldn't miss out on a warm spring day such as this. There was one person who was... His name was Harken. He was busy at a nursing home, helping the elderly and keeping them company. He was one of the few that the old folks actually liked, which is understandable. Not many people disliked Harken, but not many people actually knew him. He was a prime example of how a young person should be, and as such, was crushed by the expectations of everyone else around him. The only people who didn't smother him were those nice old folks.

"Your turn Mrs. Glenn." Harken said with a smile, which was always charming and white.

"I got it, I got it." She replied. "You know, shouldn't you be out playing with your friends rather than keep an old lady company?"

"Eh... They're all busy." - A nice lie - "I may as well keep my favorite gal company."

"Oh you." Mrs. Glenn pretended to blush. "My family's coming to visit next week, would you like to meet them? I have a pretty granddaughter who's single~"

"Uh... Sure." Harken agreed. "Now stop tryin' to distract me, I see you slipping that card out of your sleeve Mrs. Poker Queen."

With that last remark, they both began laughing.

--------------

Harken returned home at around five o' clock, just in time for dinner. His parents would ask him the usual questions about his visit with the old people, and then it'd just be pointless small talk that would last till six o' clock. Harken was an only child, so he deemed himself as the odd one out in most conversations at the dinner table.

After dinner Harken went straight to his room and did what he always did. He stared in the mirror for some time. What looked back at him wasn't something hideous, but something that was rather handsome. Sure he was a bit on the small side for someone at the age of eighteen, but he sure looked like an angel.

Hark's hair was a hazel-brown like color and was kept short, but styled in a model-ish way. His face was hairless; on it being serene features and gentle green eyes. Sure his face was handsome, but he just had an overly boyish physic. There wasn't much muscle to his frame, and he only stood at 5'7". Despite that, he was a very good runner and an even swifter swimmer... It was just embarrassing since he seemed like a flat-chested girl on the boy's swim team.

Harken closed his eyes and just wished that he was a late bloomer. His father was an impressively large man, being a bit over six feet tall and almost all muscle. He usually would brag about how he was much bigger than Harken when he was his age... It made Hark feel terrible. When he opened his eyes he noticed something strange on the bed. It appeared to be a green crystal of some sort. He sat on the bed and examined it closely, in which it began glowing as soon as he picked it up. But before he could even view all of it, it shot straight in between in his eyes; making him faint.
