Micah rolled the dice and got a five and one. Moving his token six spaces to the south, a card slid out from his side of the board. Picking the card up he read it. "Lucky rabbit's feet - gives +3 to roll."
Realizing what was going to happen next, Micah pulled his shoelaces and loosened his foot in time. As he pulled it out of the shoe, Micah could feel it growing longer, looking like a magic trick where he pulls something too large out of a small space, until it had doubled in size and a coating of brownish fur covered the foot with thick pads on the bottom of his feet. Micah's toes itched as his nails grew into stubby claws. Kari gave him a hug and said, "There. Now I have furry arms and you got furry feet. Looks like you're transformation is going to be helpful in the game. That was some quick thinking taking your shoes off before they got damaged."
Micah nodded, "Yeah it probably would have been painful if I'd torn through a pair of my favorite sneakers. I saw Ester's change and figured I wouldn't be as lucky." Everyone was smiling at that and Ester chimed in, "Didn't tear my clothes but it did put some stretch in some areas." Angel and Kari were scandalized while the boys all got a good laugh at the remark.
Despite the odd changes, things had gone alright and everyone was in a good mood. When Darwin stood up from the table and looked out the window. "The land has gotten further."
Everyone got up and went to the front porch to take a look. The grass now went for a hundred feet in every direction and had grown to knee height. The land was starting to gain definition as more trees were now in sight and in part of the land a stream was passing through. Curious Ester wandered off the porch and walked over to the stream. Angel was close behind but the rest decided to hold their ground. Ester dipped her hand in the stream and felt the water flowing past. "It wouldn't be so weird if I couldn't see that the water is coming from nowhere and disappearing into nowhere. Do you think it just loops around or is the whiteness just an illusion?"
"I don't know Ester," Angel replied,"It's magic whatever it is and I don't know what is but it makes me uncomfortable to see something so beyond anything I've ever known or heard about. Changing age and growing fur is one thing but this defies description."
"The forest is over there," Ester pointed,"I can feel it, calling to me..."
"Right, how about we go back into the house and get back to the game. It's Kari's turn and you know how she hates to wait." Angel was starting to worry about Ester now. With the sign proclaiming the path to the Earth King as a landmark, Angel knew that Ester had pointed directly where the forest would be eventually. Once it showed up, Angel feared the pull would become even stronger and then they would have to do something in order to continue the game if Ester were to wander off. Angel led Ester back to the house and everyone got back inside and Kari picked up the dice and rolled.
