Apples with Zip

added by AdobeFats 20 years ago O

Mason Andrew Dixson was the son of the original orchard farmer in the Passion Valley region. At 41 years old his seven sons helped him on the farm as they all studied for a future in farming like their father.

Passion Valley had a rich volcanic soil perfect for farming and perfect for orchards. A creek which was spring fed ran through the property. Mister Dixson had a sprinkling system put in for the dryseason and drew the water from the never ending spring water.

Every year the apples were the largest in the region. Sweet but not hard they made his farm the first word in apple production. It was on that fated day when Mason suggested to his wife a new marketing idea.

"Angie, I have a thought which could make us some really big money from the fame we have achieved from the apple business. Hho about we set up a applesauce kitchen and cook a special batch of sauce with our name printed on the jars!" said Mister Dixson.

"Everybody does that Mason, it's not new!" chided the misses.

Mason thought for a moment and jumped up and ran for the bathroom.

"Oh damn, another round of his spastic colon again!" said Angie holding her nose.

Mason Dixson came back down the hall beaming wide with pride. "I got it right here dear, this ought to make the difference! We cook the applesauce and put it in Mason jars, right! Then in the top of each jar we put a small gel cap of Lay-aggra erection stimulant and call the product "Apple Passion".

Angie stood mouth open and wide eyed as she looked at her husband. Mason stood with a broad smile and a hand full of his favorite vitamin.

"Mason A. Dixson you have had some wild ideas before but this one I have to agree is the absolute best one I'd heard in years! I'll call
Zed Crotchrott and have him get his men started in the new garage and we'll make that the kitchen. Yup this is a good one dearie," said Angie as she patted Mason's head.

It was a week later that the applesauce kitchen was taking shape. Then Billy Mason came in all aflustered and out of breath. "Hey Pop, the water in the creek is got a silver like stuff floating on the surface!"

Mason and Billy went down to the creek and sure enought the water was almost gray and clouded with the silver stuff. One look at the water and Mason lit out for the pumphouse and shut down the spinkling system.

Mason had no idea how long the creek had been polluted till that evening when he looked over the orchard from his favorite hill top. The evening sun's golden glow showed a glimmering sheen to the trees and leaves. In his heart he knew this was not a good year of his orchard.
