You blink, finding yourself standing outside in a thick forest! Sunlight streams down through the branches, and the air is very fresh and filled with the smell of pine and earth. You hear something off to the left and are amazed to see a huge buck moving slowly through the trees nearby. You reach back without thinking and slowly pull an arrow and fit it to your bow before you quite realize what you are doing. Then you catch sight of the dark bronze skin and wiry muscles of your arm. You gasp and stare down at yourself as the deer runs off.
You are wearing only a raw leather loincloth and moccasins, with a bone knife at your waist and a hand-carved bow in your hand. Black hair hangs past your shoulders, kept out of your face by a headband. As you stare at yourself, you begin to ‘remember’ details of your new life. You are a young Hunter Brave from a Cherokee tribe, maybe 18 summers old and healthy. You have great skill with the bow, and are already one of the best hunters of your tribe. Searching these new memories, you find no images of Caucasians. This must be the distant past, before whites settled the country! It looks like the woman gave you what you wanted – but do you want to be stuck in the past like this? Looking back, all you see is more forest. The door is gone. Do you have any choice?
