Andrew brought held her left wing up to the sky, blocking the glare of the singular sun this world had, judging they were heading north since it seemed to set always in the west at the end of the day. At least she hoped cardinal directions were the same here. Looking back to her new companion Andrew asked.. "So what can you tell me about this city on the outskirts of the woods?"
Laurel slowed her efficient and silent slithering; her form of movement, something that Andrew was both curious and envious of.
Laurel, pondered this for a moment, a pained expression on her face again as she replied, "not much i'm afraid.. as I said I tried to visit other towns before although I wasn't met with too kind a reception. Hopefully this one will be different."
A few more hours passed as the two women passed through the woods, still getting caught up on changes over the last twenty some years that separated them.
"..so what were you doing before you arrived here Laurel?" and then with asking innocently enough, "did you have any significant others?"
Laurel smiled a bit and responded, "I was in my freshman year at college, working part-time at a clothing store downtown."
Andrew replied, "oh yea? What were you majoring in?"
Laurel chirped, forgetting for a moment where they were, "well, architecture although truth be told i've always had a passion for fashion design, although I suppose that's changed quite a bit now. I wonder if my ideas will still be accepted if we ever get back.."
Andrew replied, trying to remain positive.. "don't say 'if' .. we'll find a way, I promise"
Laurel smiled again, this time flashing her shiny teeth momentarily.
She looked over to Andrew, as they neared the edge of the woods, "oh you asked if I was seeing someone", to which Andrew, lost in thought came back to reality, "oh yes I did, sorry i'm just trying to think of what we should do first when we reach the town.. but go on you were saying?"
Laurel looked back to her, speaking with a calm, interested tone, "oh! yea I guess we should be planning what to do when we arrive. I figure we'll take a break for the night and should reach it by noon tomorrow but oh.. yea I was seeing someone actually" Laurel said, also lost in thought for a moment, her face having a more relaxed look now.
Andrew smiled a bit but couldn't help but think this may have been a bad question to ask, not wanting to send her back down a path of depression, but not able to come up with something else to change the topic either.. "really? Is he cute? Tell me all about him" finding himself... herself.. feeling a bit warm at the thought of another male now, intently listening in as Laurel described her boyfriend.
"Oh he was a sophomore going the same college as me, different major though and very athletic and attractive, an honor student, and a real sweetheart on top of that"
Andrew couldn't help but feel a bit pert, her mind slipping a bit, daydreaming about an attractive, intelligent boyfriend to hold her and spend the nights with; then blushing hard, her expression darkening a bit as she realized how much this form was already changing her.. a bit worried now too as she found that she was thinking of herself more as a girl with every passing day..
Laurel noted this change in expression but said nothing for a moment, finally placing a hand on her shoulder in understanding and sympathy, "it's okay.. like you said, we'll find a way out of here soon.."
Andrew, a bit less certain than before responded quietly, smiling a bit though at the touch, responded, "..I hope so"
