Something metallic is reflecting the sunlight, something golden! It is an oval, maybe a stone. A nugget about half the width of a dime and not quite as long. Forgetting about the sweat matting down your hair, you plunge your hand into the water and pull the golden object out of the water.
Or, rather, you try to. Your fingers slip off its rounded surface as it stubbornly refuses to move. Whatever it is, must be deeply buried under the stream bed. Some of the sand drifts away in the current, and the thing looks like some kind of a rod.
Now you are really curious. Pulling off your shoes and socks, and rolling up your pant legs, you step into the cold, clear water. Your feet sink a bit in the fine sand lining the stream's bed. Reaching down, you push sand away from the object, discovering some other golden rods perhaps connected with the one you first discovered. Carelessly, you continue your digging, stirring up a lot of sand in the process. Most of the sand drifts away in the current, but some settles onto your feet, covering them.
You wait a few moments for the sand to clear, and bend down to examine what you have uncovered.
It is a hand--, connected to an arm which extends deeper into the stream bed!
Staring in shock, it gradually dawns on you that your feet have sunk into the stream bed to a bit above your ankles...
