"Can you give me a list of the realities and what buttons to press?" you asked. If you were going to spend a week in each reality you wanted to go to ones you would enjoy.
"I'm afraid not" the scientist said. "We want as diverse of an experience as we ca get. The best way to do that is for you to pick them at random without knowing what you're going to be."
You sigh and nod your head. You open the watch cover and look at the buttons. After a few moments you say "I'll go with red-yellow-green-red."
The scientist writes on a piece of paper on a clipboard saying "Week one: red-yellow-green-red. Go ahead and press those buttons now please."
You take a deep breath and push them. You're amazed when bolts of energy leap from the top of the watch in the three and nine o'clock positions and meet at a point when you press the last button. The bolts of energy drew apart and created a hole in the air. The bolts disappeared leaving an unobstructed view of the portal. You weren't expecting to be able to see through to the other reality. In truth you hadn't expected this to be real. What you could see is a dirty and grimy bedroom and it appeared to be night. You walk up to the portal and put your hand in it. It felt like sticking your hand through a plane of water. There was a light blue glow around first your fingers then your hand as you put your hand into the portal.
A hand appeared on the other side lower than your own hand and it looked feminine. You wriggle your fingers and the fingers on the other side wriggle. You try to pull your hand back out but you couldn't. "I can't pull my hand back out" you say panicking.
"You better go through before the portal shuts down" the scientist said. "When it does and you're still like that you'll probably lose that hand."
You didn't want that so you took a deep breath and stepped through. There was a slight disorientation as you appeared on the other side but it passed quickly. You look behind you and were surprised that you couldn't see the portal. It must have closed just after you made it through. What you saw behind you was a man laying on the floor. You walk up to him to see if he was asleep.
Suddenly the scientist's voice called out "Are you ok? Are you there?"
"I'm here and ok" you replied really surprised that they had contacted you already.
"Thank God you're alright" the scientist said. "You just walked back toward the portal and through it."
"The portal's still open?" you asked.
"Yes" the scientist said. "It will remain open for a few more minutes or until you close the watch."
"Well I didn't see it so I assumed it had closed" you said.
"At least we know about organic matter now" the scientist said. "Give us a little description of what you're seeing."
"Well I'm a girl" you said looking at your breasts. "I see a guy on the floor here. I think he's asleep." You stop short as you see a curious burn mark in his chest. He wasn't breathing and didn't stir as you approached. "Actually I think he's dead" you said after gaining your composure. "He seems to have been in some sort of military since he's in a uniform. He's wearing a red bandanna on his arm and he has a hole burned into his chest." You stop short again as you realize what reality you must be in. "Oh hell no!" you said. "You guys programmed the reality with Terminators in it into the watch?!"
"We did" the scientist said.
"Well get me out of here!" you nearly yell then shut up fearing that Terminators might hear you.
"We can't" the scientist said. "The watch needs twenty-four hours to recharge."
"So I just need to stay alive for twenty-four hours then I can get out of here" you said.
"The contract states that you must stay in each reality for one week" the scientist said. "If you don't you won't get paid. We'll sweeten the deal for you though. If you go through with this we'll through in the watch you're wearing and the list."
"Do I have to decide now?" you asked.
"You can have twenty-four hours to decide" the scientist said. "If you come back before the week is up though not only do you lose the money but..."
The sudden cutoff made you nervous. They're either having some type of technical issue or the portal closed. Either way you won't be hearing from them again until tomorrow. You look around wondering what the last part was going to be. It doesn't matter much right now as you don't think you'll survive the night. You close the watch and consider what to do next.
