My heart was trip-hammering as I watched the partygoers’ reaction – but there wasn’t any. Carolyn Trier, one of the most attractive and popular girls in the school, had apparently vanished into thin air and no-one seemed to notice, while the rabbit- woman that had been Mrs Bockman had reluctantly fallen back into her hostess role; again, apparently without any upset. This ring was really turning out to be something… I could reverse changes, and stop the crowd from panicking, was there anything it couldn’t do?
There were a couple of impatient yells for me to get on with the act - I guessed because they’d forgotten the tricks with Carolyn along with her presence at the party. Since one of those shouting was a pretty brunette from the Cheerleading squad – who, until moments ago, had been one of Carolyn’s clique at the party – I decided to oblige.
“Careful there, Lisa” I warned theatrically. “It never pays to hurry magic, because you never know quite what will happen!” Lisa smiled sarcastically and tried to answer, only to find she was yapping like a small dog! A puzzled expression crossed her face, and she turned to one of her friends; but again, all she did was yap. Although she tried hard to speak, all she could do was make dog noises slowly.
I got a few yells of approval from the drunker guys present, and a laugh from a lot of the girls; Lisa was well known for being over-talkative. One of the more careless ones muttered something about her now sounding like a bitch. I thought that was a nasty piece of backstabbing, so…
