On consideration, David thought Bill’s punishment had been to realise his change, and there was no point in making things worse for him. David smiled at Tomas and William and told them they could return to their jobs, which they did.
Next David began to work on himself. When he was finished he was concerned that his transformation would be accepted. His initial accidental change of hair color had been very noticeable. So he rang Pete’s extension and waited for Pete to answer him. He found himself saying “Hi Pete, it’s Derek. Have you got a moment to come over?” David panicked that he had used a different name, and his voice was now deeper and smoother. Suppose Pete just said “Who the hell are you?” and that was the end of David’s career.
But before David had time to fully spell that out to himself, Pete replied “Sure Derek, I’ll be right over.”
So a total makeover meant a change of name, thought Derek. After all I used to be called, er, something beginning with D. Derek got up to check the name on his door, and indeed it just said “Derek Andrews”.. Relieved at this, Derek took a glance at his reflection in a mirror and smiled when he saw he was now a Shemar Moore lookalike. He knew he had transformed himself, and he knew being this attractive was an improvement, but he could not remember his previous appearance.
Pete came in and Derek ran over with him what he needed to know about the other men at the 12.30 meeting. Derek noticed that Tim and Bill were not mentioned. It occurred to him that he could introduce diversity into this place. Instead of being run by white straight men, introduce variety. He would wait until the meeting until he decided which managers to change. In the meantime, could he do something for Pete? His long attractive fingers took up the pen as he thought..
