"I'll go check it out!" Brian grins and takes a loose cloth cap from his belt and pulls it over his head, making sure the tips of his ears are covered. "Now I will look human."
Mike snorted. "Yeah, a human kid! But I guess that's safer."
Brian nodded. "That's the idea! Nobody pays attention to kids." he took off his sword and other belongings, which made him look even more like a thin, normal human boy. Then he headed into the town.
He was surprised how busy the place was - and also by the total lack of non-human races. There were some odd-looking horses, though - he blinked at one with nubs of what looked like arms and a flat muzzle. He realized it must be a centaur mostly changed into a horse! This definitely was not a good place for Mike.
A couple of the townspeople looked at him curiously - Brian began to wish he had his weapon back. There were some younger kids playing in a mud hole and he angled towards them hoping to blend in better.
The children here were smaller than him, though, and a couple of the adults stopped and watched. He got splatted with mud as one of the boys laughed, and the other children started pulling him into the ooze. Brian was bewildered at first, but then had to laugh and join in the silliness. This was just a game, anyway.
He was wrestling with a boy who seemed to be pretty much his size when a huge hand grabbed his arm and pulled him up. A giant of a man glared down at him. "Just what do you think you're doing? How old are you?"
Brian fumbled for words. "Uh, just playing! I'm uh, eleven."
The man laughed and dropped him back down. "Eleven? Don't lie to me!"
Brian was suddenly tackled by the boy he'd been playing with. He was too startled to resist, as the kid who was the same size as him looked to be about six years old!
The man laughed again and walked away. "Maybe five years from now when you are really eleven years old again, you'll have learned to tell the truth!"
