You are plunged into darkness. You feel yourself being twisted and pulled. Then you are
still. A bright, pure, white light envelopes you and you are temporarily blinded. You wake
up on a rocky outcropping in a small patch of forest. You look around and see mountains
to the west, a sea to the north, plains to the east, and a populated village to the south.
You then gaze at yourself. You have become a creature that is human in proportion and
feline in features with a jackal's head and leathery bat wings. You recognize yourself from
a book in your Fictional History class as the Grim, demon and omen of death or
destruction. You find the irony in the ancient magicians' spells. You are not an evil person
and would never harm anyone without an extremely good reason. But now anyone that
sees you will fear and reject you. You know you can't stay here forever though and try to
decide what to do next. You might as well chance a trip to the village as stay here and
starve. You realize however that you are naked. And demons don't have sheaths. You
search nearby and find a tanned-hide sack. It contains baggy canvas pants, a leather belt,
a sword with a sheath, a Swiss Army knife, a wallet with $1,000 in cash and some ID,
along with a few miscellaneous items like a pen, sticky notes, and a pack of gum. You
don the pants, belt, and sword, put the wallet in your pocket, as well as the pen, tablet,
and gum, fashion a simple vest from the sack (for minor protection), and hook the knife
within easy reach. There's a note on the first tab of the pack of sticky-notes;"Hope this
helps you with your journey ~Amy Brük, Messanger for the Mages". You face south and
walk towards the village.
