"You've got to change me back!" Mr. Mendes demanded.
Ric and Josh, 100-foot-tall giant in comparison to
their three-inch-tall friend, didn't feel exactly
compelled to follow the orders from the shrunken man.
Mr. Mendes, still standing on the flat of one of his
sandals, fought to keep control. "I know you boys are
just having fun, but enough is enough," he said.
"Please, change me back."
"Maybe we should," Josh said.
Rick frowned and took a step closer. Mr. Mendes
recoiled somewhat as the boy's steps lifted a gigantic
sneaker over him. Ric's foot fell back onto the floor
only inches from the sandal Mr. Mendes was standing
on. "We could have some fun first," he said.
"No," Mr. Mendes said, trying to sound firm although
his voice was weak and squeaky.
"All right," Ric relented. He began to thumb through
the book. "Let me find the right spell."
As his brother scanned the book, Josh stooped to get a
closer look at Mr. Mendes. "Does it feel weird?" Josh
asked.
Mr. Mendes looked around the room. Familiar furniture
and other objects were now monstrous in comparison to
him. "Yeah, it's weird. Just hurry and change me
back."
"That could be a problem," Ric announced.
"What do you mean?" Mr. Mendes asked.
"Part of the page with the reversal spell has been
torn out of the book," he said.
Mr. Mendes fought the wave of panic. "Boys, where did
you get that book?"
The brothers quickly told him they had purchased the
book at the estate sale.
"Maybe that page is still in that box with those old
magazines," Ric said in a hopeful tone.
"You've got to check," Mr. Mendes said. "And please,
hurry!"
The boys headed toward the front door. "Uh, maybe one
of us should stay here," Ric said.
"You're just going up the street," Mr. Mendes shouted
up at them. "I'll be fine in my own home. Just find
that page and hurry back."
"We will," Josh promised, and the brothers raced out
the door.
After the boys left, Mr. Mendes walked across his
living room floor. The hard wood floor was easy to
walk on. The tiny man walked beneath his couch and
found the underside of the gigantic piece of furniture
still a comfortable distance above his head. He also
saw some dust bunnies the size of basketballs. "I
guess I should do a better job keeping this place
clean," he remarked to himself.
Suddenly, he heard a loud, rapping noise. "Oh, no," he
exlaimed, recognizing the sound as someone knocking at
the front door.
After a moment, the knocking returned.
And the door began to swing open slowly. "Francis? You
home?"
"Oh, no!" Mr. Mendes gasped as his giant boyfriend
stepped into the room and closed the door behind him.
Normally, Marco was 6'3" tall guy with a very muscular
body and dark, attractive features. But, to his
shrunken boyfriend, he looked more than 150 feet tall.
He looked like some fearsome god with his incredible
body now of such huge proportions.
Mr. Mendes, concealed beneath his couch, debated what
to do. He didn't really want Marco to see him like
this. If he remained hidden, perhaps Marco would think
he wasn't home and leave, hopefully before the boys
returned. But, if the boys could not resolve the
dilemma, he might need Marco's help.
