Vipriss:
It has been some days now, since we had moved in our new house.
Naturally, unpacking our possessions and adjusting to our new
neighbourhood took some time and effort, but all in all we were
really lucky that everything had been arranged so thoughtfully
by the old Chinese man.
The house was just great. Though a bit smaller than my old house from
the outside, the room layout was very advantageous, so that you got the
impression of even more space than before.
At the ground floor, there was a nice dining room, a small, state-of-the-art
kitchen, a comfortable living room with a large couch and a fireplace,
and a separate working room. At the upper floor there were the bedrooms
- one for my daughter Emily, one for me and one guest room - as well as the
bathrooms. Finally, there was some storage room at the attic and even more
free room in cellar.
Actually, the cellar was quite impressive, since it extended over three levels
into the underground and - in addition to the common storage space at the
first level below ground - it held even more bedrooms, bathrooms and another
kitchen at the lower levels. There even was a kind of secret door, which
covered the access from the first to the second underground level.
No wonder, Emily had called this area "our hideout for secret agents", when
she had spotted it during our first exploration of our new home.
Whatever the truth behind this odd cellar, we had agreed not to tell anyone
about it. - And as far as we could tell, the people from the neighbourhood
weren't aware of it, though they seemed very considerate and caring to us.
Emily had already found two friends, Sarah and Gregory, who were just
at her age and who went to the high school, in which I had enrolled Emily.
Sarah was the younger daughter of the Smiths, our neighbours "to the left",
who already had invited us to a wonderful barbecue party two days ago.
And just on the opposite side of our street, Greg lived with his single father
Bill McCaul, who had helped us a lot with some electrical installations.
I got the feeling, Bill had a crush on me, since we met for the first time
on the day of our moving-in...
Well, it really has been some time now.
And Emily and I haven't done any snake-tricks ever since.
Was it possible to just ignore "this other half" of ourselves?
