Tricia enjoyed having normal conversation with Sam, as if she had been born a cowgirl and it was nothing new. Halfway through their meals, however, Tricia began to wonder how Sam would react if she just suddenly switched off the option on the remote that kept her oblivious. She thought the best thing to do was to change back to normal before revealing the truth.
She realized this would also give her a good opportunity to see how well the remote's perception option worked during an active transformation. She'd been aware of the four boys changing, but if anyone else at the cafe had looked at them, would they have noticed what was happening? Even a little bit?
Underneath the table and away from Sam's gaze, Trish quickly called up the cow preset and initiated a backwards transformation. Soon her black fur was receding into her skin, and her other cow parts were disappearing as well. Her hair shrank, her horns disappeared, and her clothes changed back to the regular outfit she was wearing when she transformed herself. All the while, Sam continued eating, glancing at Tricia every so often but not showing surprise.
"How's the food?" Tricia asked, trying to get Sam to focus more on her.
Sam looked straight at her and said "Great, as always. Yours?"
Tricia was rapidly losing her appetite for salad and began to crave her usual burger, but she just replied "The dressing's pretty good."
Her transformation finished up, and Tricia smiled at a successful test. Sam hadn't the slightest inkling that she was changing. That remote was an amazing piece of work.
Unfortunately one thing she hadn't counted on was the fact that she wasn't wearing shoes. She had been in her stocking feet before her original transformation. She had to covertly browse to the clothing section of the remote's menu and choose a pair of cross trainers. Within seconds of zapping herself again, white and red sneakers popped on her feet.
"What's up?" Sam asked. "You look distracted."
"Uh...oh," Tricia said, realizing she'd been caught at last. "It's my...shoes. My new shoes, they're not too comfortable."
Sam glanced under the table to see. "They look pretty good, though. You probably just need to break them in." Because Trish hadn't bothered with the acceptance settings for the shoes, Sam easily knew she had never seen them before.
They were coming to the end of their lunch, but Tricia still hadn't worked up the nerve to show Sam the remote. She'd either have to think of something else they could do together, or part ways and keep it a secret.
