Mark hung up the phone and sticked in there pocket. "Okay, how are we
going to get out of here without Mom, Dad, or Zack seeing us?" Mark
asked.
"They were watching TV when you came back over. Let's just quietly
walk down stairs and sneak out while they're distracted." Max
suggested as he took control of their legs. He walked them slowly
downstairs, making sure not to step on any of the floorboards that
creaked.
They could hear a commercial going on. Max tiptoed to the door, and
Mark slowly turned the knob and open the door. They were halfway out
when their Dad came up from behind them and ased, "Max, Mark! Where
are you two going?"
Their body was halfway out of the door so their Dad could only see
Max. Max swallowed hard and replied, as calmly as he could,
"We...We're going to Luke's house."
"Okay, then! Just don't come back to late. You know how worried your
Mom can get." Their Dad smiled.
Max nodded, and quickly slipped out. Max and Mark then let out a sigh
of relief. "That was too close."
"I'll say" Mark replied. They quickly crossed the street and entered
Luke's house.
