Dirk sat at the table, sorting through the bills. At the age of twenty nine, a beautiful girlfriend...whom he was going to marry in six months...and a steady job that could easily support him, Arianna and any children they might have, Dirk couldn't be any happier...except for the pile of bills he was sorting through.
Normally bills weren't a problem, he just didn't like taking care of them and usually Arianna took care of the bills. But his girlfriend was out of town on business and probably wouldn't be back until the middle of next week.
Sighing, Dirk picked up another invoice for the floral shop Arianna owned and began typing the information into the word processor in front of him. Information entered, he picked up a folded piece of paper and unfolding it, he paused...read what was written and reread it again.
"This is some sort of joke," Dirk thought as he read out loud the note, attempting to confirm that what he saw was real.
'Life maybe stuck in a rut. Want some change or excitement? How about a wish for something truly marvelous to happen? Well, it can happen.
Imagine, for moment, that it was possible to change your life...anything no matter how trivial or finite...it is possible. Perhaps you are unhappy with your looks? Maybe someone in your life could be improved somehow? Perhaps you are dissatisfied with the world around you?
Well, all you have to do is write what you wish below. The wish will make only you aware to the changes. Every person and the world around you will remain unaware and any changes will be treated as if they are normal.
Interested? Just write below your wish and try to enjoy as you, a person or the world around you goes through the change.
Note: Wishes with more detail are more likely to turn out the way you want...please feel free to add as much detail as you want. Unsatisfied with you wish? Rip up the paper and life will return to this moment in time, as if you had never made the wish in the first place...only one wish per person...not wishing for more wishes or objects that grant extra wishes...Magick Emporium not to be held responsible for unsatisfied customers and wishes that spawn out of control.'
Rereading out loud again, Dirk dropped the not on the pile of unfiled bills and chuckling out loud, he stood and said, "This has got to be one of Arianna’s jokes," and headed for the fridge to get himself something to drink.
Sipping his beverage, he looked at the table and thought about the wish. At the top of his head, he could think of anything to wish for. Popping the cap back on his drink, he returned it to the fridge and sitting back down at the table, he picked up the note and noting that it looked rather frail, he placed it on the scanner next to word processor.
Pressing the button, he waited as it was scanned in the processor. As he waited, Dirk thought of anything he might wish for.
"Money and world piece are out," he reasoned. "They just cause too much headaches and trouble in the end. And I really can't think of anyone I know that has such a horrible life that really it needs such changing."
A beep from the scanner interrupted his musing and lifting the lid, Dirk gasped when he discovered that note had vanished. Turning to the processor, he clicked an icon and immediately the note pulled up. Curious about this turn of events, Dirk saved the note to a floppy and returned to his previous task.
-----
Five hours later, Dirk sat in front of the home computer, the note...still stored on the floppy disk...pulled up on the screen. Reading once again, he wanted to try something.
It was one of Arianna’s fantasies to role-play whenever they made out and now Dirk wondered how that would change by making one simple wish. Double-clicking, he pulled the note up into a word program and thinking carefully, he began to type.
Before him, the words 'I wish that every time Arianna or some other person addressed me or treated me as a girl I would take on an attribute that is connected to how I am being addressed or treated as a girl. Example being some one complements my hair and my hair grows longer. Some calls me Ms and my name shifts to something more feminine. But, every time this happens, the person takes on a masculine trait in exchange for me taking on a feminine trait,' appeared.
Sitting back, Dirk reread his wish and slowly going through it, tightened it up, added a bit more details and in general made sure that there were no loop-holes. Hitting save, and not expecting anything to happen or even for his wish to come true...he didn't have any tendencies toward acting feminine and nobody really treated him like a girl or acted like he was a female...he was surprised when suddenly the words, 'Your wish has been granted. Unhappy? Just delete this disk and your wish will undo itself.'
Confused, Dirk sat back and stared at the screen, wondering if this would actually work and what was going to happen to him if it did work. Unknown to him, a small icon flashed up in the corner and the note was sent out over the internet and into the world.
