Max was still laying on top of Luke when their discussion was over, but Luke hadn't said anything, which made Max antsy. He shifted around but he couldn't feel comfortable anymore. "Luke? Buddy?"
Luke kept his head turned so he couldn't see Max. "Luke, come on. Say something dude... can't you talk to me anymore?" Luke continued to averted his eyes and not say a thing. "Luke, dude! Say something! I know something is up..." Max could feel their stomach in a knot and Luke's side was tensed up. He put his hand on their joined chests, "I can feel it! So just say something... Anything!"
Max turned himself so his face was in front of Luke's, but Luke immediately turned the other way. "Ok fine... don't say anything, but do something. If your angry, punch me or something! I can't stand this awkward silence stuff. I thought we were friends, but if you can't speak..." Max was interrupted when Luke lifted his head and gave Max a light kiss. There was silence for a minute as they both let it sink in.
"Luke..." Max was slowly lowering his face to Luke's lips, but at the last second Luke turned away. "Grr... You're not helping! This is so confusing, I don't know what to do."
"I do..." Luke turned his head in such a way his and Max's lips wouldn't touch. "I think we need some time apart..." Max was shocked at what he heard and shook his head. Luke was pushing Max so they could sit up. "It's the best thing we can do right now. You won't be able to sort out your feelings if we're stuck together."
"But Luke.."
"Do you love your girlfriend?" Luke asked frankly.
"...Yes..."
"And do you have any sort of feelings for me?"
"...Yes..." Max admitted after a long pause.
Luke sighed and wrapped his and around Max squeezing him tightly. "Well... I'm starting to realize I have them for you. And I don't want either of us to do something we'll regret. So until you're ready and willing, I don't think we should stay like this anymore..."
Max squeezed Luke back, "I'm sorry Luke. I love my girlfriend, but now I'm not sure. Being with you is so much easier... and more fun... I don't know, but I think I'm falling in love with you too."
"That's why we need to split. Let's just get apart and talk about it tomorrow after we sleep on it..." Luke started pushing Max as hard as he could, but they wouldn't budge. Luke looked at Max, who let out a long sigh, then began pushing too. After they separated, Max got up and left, saying he didn't want to stay around a bunch of joined guys, and that he was going home. Luke stayed in the basement to think.
