As Paige pulled the trigger, she felt the familiar light envelop her, and her mind stalled for a split-second. As everything returned, she waited eagerly for the influx of new memories.
It was about four or five years ago that Paige had noticed her love for women. She'd been on the internet, getting whatever information she could find for a stupid school project on lilies. When Google Images turned up more than a few Japanese drawings of girls kissing and holding hands, Paige immediately went to investigate - first to discover that "yuri" was Japanese for both the lily flower and for art or stories about cute lesbians, then to find out where she could get more of these pictures.
There were some nice looking girls at her foster home and in school, but Zane put them all to shame. She'd come to Paige's school to give a demonstration on what her company did and was up to, and despite her unkempt hair and more meager curves, she invoked unfamiliar feelings in the young girl. Paige had been watching that presentation with the most rapt attention she could recall ever giving to anything before, and not simply for the subject matter. She made sure to catch up with the scientist before she'd left, and it seemed that Paige had caught Zane's eye as well. Paige had desperately asked to arrange a meeting sometime, and soon she'd run away to live with Zane. The two lived a good life together, and their activities under the sheets were bliss.
In the present, Paige went through this new information again, to ensure she wasn't thinking wishfully. She didn't doubt her girl-loving, but she hadn't guessed that this would happen.
Since Paige was now a lesbian, the gun had taken it upon itself to ensure that her longtime love interest was compatible. She'd retroactively - posthumously - turned Zane into a geeky lesbian scientist. The irony was not lost on Paige that Zane hadn't gotten to experience any of it, unless he - she - somehow had, but it wouldn't help to dwell on it.
Well, she'd at least accomplished what she'd meant to do. Ladies, watch out.
